The Church of St. Michael the Archangel, Booton, is the dream of one man, Whitwell Elwin, it's rector and designer. Elwin was born in 1816 and educated at the Paston school in North Walsham.
For the main features of the building, Elwin used existing models from churches all over England. The hammer beam roof owes much to Trunch and the tracery above the chancel arch may well have been copied from Lichfield.
